To promote future Ukrainian-Bavarian research cooperation, November 2023 in Regensburg
On 13 and 14 November 2023, the Ukrainian-Bavarian conference "Environmental Research between Ukraine and Bavaria - encounter, cooperation and reconstruction" took place in Regensburg. 60 researchers and experts from various Ukrainian and Bavarian universities and research institutions, as well as representatives from government agencies and NGOs, discussed the future of joint, interdisciplinary environmental research - triggered by the reconstruction of Ukraine.
The conference was jointly organised by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU), the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR), the Science at Risk Emergency Office of akno e. V. from Berlin, the BAYHOST Coordination Office Ukraine, the Leibniz Institute for East and South East European Studies (IOS), the Graduate School for East and South East European Studies and the City of Regensburg.
The exchange of experts in their own field of research took place in five thematic working groups:
- Challenges of Waste Management and Circular Economy
- Modern Hydromelioration Service and Achievement of Ecological Balance
- Water Management
- Natura 2000 and the Emerald Network as Tools for Conservation and Restoration of Biodiversity
- Green Energy and Climate Sustainability
Intensive discussions over several hours crystallised potential for joint Ukrainian-Bavarian research.
