Note! Only students who began their Master’s degree in Biology before the winter semester 26/27 may choose this subject.

Students beginning in the winter semester of 2026/27 may choose one of the following focus subjects:

Theory Module - Molecular Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

BIO-M-TM-MEE

Module coordinator: N.N.

Module contents

Lectures and seminars covering the foundations of molecular, behavioral and evolutionary ecology and evolutionary biology, such as

  • social evolution, human evolution, and sociobiology
  • chemical ecology
  • evolutionary ecology

Different seminars comprising instructions for presentation techniques, talk design and literature search as well as presentation and discussion of a research based topic in the mentioned fields including

  • epigenetics, senescence, current topics in evolutionary biology
  • chemical cues and signals in interactions between animals /plants and their environment
  • interaction between animals and microorganisms
Module components
  1. at least two lectures in the field of molecular ecology and evolutionary biology (for a selection see the course catalog at the university portal)
  2. one seminar in the field of molecular ecology and evolutionary biology (for a selection see the course catalog at the university portal)

In the seminar a seminar presentation has to be held and registered in Flexnow as an ungraded study achievement (Studienleistung).

Note! If you are not sure what lectures and seminar to select, please contact the person in charge of the module.
The selection may depend on the examiner you choose for the module examination.

Module examination

30 min oral examination (graded)

Examiner:

The student can choose one of the examiner.

Please get in contact with the examiner to arrange a date of the oral examination, than register the examination in flexnow.
