Students starting in the winter semester 26/27 or later: Portfolio (collection of exercises and reflective tasks completed alongside the lectures). Please ask the module coordinator about the requirements. Once it has been finalised, the portfolio must be registered in FlexNow.

The portfolio is not graded.

2.seminar “Methods in Neurobiology” (54761, link SPUR (externer Link, öffnet neues Fenster))2

seminar presentation, regular participation

You must register for the seminars. Information on how to register see in SPUR.

Once you have attended a seminar, it must be registered in FlexNow.

The seminar is not graded.

3.30 min oral examination covering the entire module (graded)4

The oral examination is held by a pair of two Professors. Possible examiners are Prof. Bosch, Prof. Brembs, Prof. Egger and Prof. Wetzel.

Examination dates are offered several times per year.

For the examination you have to register with Prof. Egger (Veronica.Egger@ur.de).

After Prof. Egger has arranged a date, you will be informed per E-Mail.

Please register for the examination in  FlexNow as well.

The oral examination is graded (= module grade).

Note! If you are unsure which lectures and seminars to choose, please contact the module coordinator for advice. Your choice may depend on which examiner you select for the module examination.

Laboratory course (6 weeks): Molecular Neurobiology of Behaviour (54616; link SPUR (externer Link, öffnet neues Fenster))

Contact the module coordinator to find a supervisor for the laboratory course.

The date of the laboratory course will then be arranged with the supervisor.

12Portfolio (graded)*

*The portfolio examination contains following:

  • Internship report of 4.000–10.000 words, including a bibliography,
  • scientific presentation (15-30 min),
  • practical scientific work,
  • data, protocols, and records -including electronic data- from scientific work, prepared in accordance with the principles of good scientific practice.

The grade of the portfolio is based on the evaluation of the report, the presentation, and the practical work in the lab. The supervisor of the laboratory course can use a template for the evaluation - Evaluation of a practical module - PDF (externer Link, öffnet neues Fenster).
The completed evaluation should then be given to the student as feedback.

Practical Module - Neurophysiology

BIO-M-PM-NP

Module coordinator: Prof. Dr. Veronica Egger

Module contents

Investigation of sensory processing at the cellular and subcellular level, in particular in the first relay station of the mammalian olfactory system, the olfactory bulb. To observe cellular networks and single synapses at work, we use electrophysiological techniques in combination with high-resolution neurophotonics (two-photon Ca2+ imaging, two-photon uncaging).

Our main current projects involve:

  • Function of reciprocal synapses

  • Oscillatory network activity in the olfactory bulb

  • Characterization of subclasses of juxtaglomerular neurons, both dopaminergic and vasopressinergic
