BAYHOST Workshop @Andrássy University Budapest "Cooperation in the Humanities" 2024

24. - 25 October 2024 in Budapest and online (in hybrid format)

BAYHOST, the Research Center German in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (FZ DiMOS), the Chair of Slavic Languages and Literature at the Institute of Slavic Languages and Literature at the University of Regensburg and Andrássy University Budapest (AUB) organized a workshop on cooperation with Ukraine in the humanities in a hybrid format from 24-25 October 2024 in Budapest.

The event brought together over 60 representatives from institutions in Ukraine, Hungary, Germany and other countries in the region.
The conference focussed on the continuation and expansion of academic partnerships in these difficult times, especially for Ukrainian institutions facing the effects of the Russian war of aggression. Discussions on important topics such as multilingualism, digital humanities and digital education paved the way for new ways of cooperation.

The workshop produced several promising outcomes, including:

  • A deeper understanding of Ukraine's rich linguistic diversity and the evolving role of language in education, which was discussed in the sessions on multilingualism.
  • Innovative approaches to integrating digital tools into the study of language, culture and history, which were presented in the sessions on digital humanities and offer new perspectives for collaborative research.
  • Practical strategies for using digital educational tools to support educational continuity in crisis situations, which are now being explored for application in Ukrainian and other European institutions.
  • Inspiring good practice examples that illustrated successful partnerships between Ukrainian and Bavarian universities and provide a framework for new cooperation models.

One of the most important outcomes of this workshop was the establishment of a direct dialogue between the participating institutions. These discussions have already sparked interest in new joint projects, exchange programmes and joint research initiatives.
