How do I use printed media?
In the Library Catalog (external link, opens in a new window) the tab „Books & Journals“ contains printed books, e-books and other media held at the University Library of Regensburg and other Bavarian libraries. Under "Holdings" you can see where a medium is located and how it can be used.
You need a library card to borrow items.
Media from the stacks: Order and borrow for four weeks
- Order via the Library Catalog
- Pick up location selectable in the order window: Loans (opening hours) or Pick Up and Return Station
- Provision after approximately one working day, notification via e-mail.
- Collection within 2 weeks at the Central Library
- Loan period: 4 weeks, extendable to up to 12 weeks, provided they have not been reserved by another user
- Shipping by mail upon request
Pick Up and Return Station
How to order media to the Pick Up and Return Station, e. g. if you want to pick it up outside of opening hours :
- Choose „Pick Up and Return Station“ in the library catalog
- Receive an e-mail with a pickup code, subject line “Media ready for pickup at the Pick Up Station”
- Open locker with code and library card
- Close locker after removal
DVDs and other special loans are generally provided via the Pick Up and Return Station.
Key literature from the Textbook collection: borrow for four weeks
- Key literature from the Textbook Collection in the Central Library and key literature on clinical medicine in the reading room Medicine can be borrowed via the self-checkout.
- Note the shelfmark to find the book
- Loan period: four weeks, extendable up to 12 weeks, provided that no order has been placed
- Opening hours
- Upon request shipping by mail
Books from the reading rooms: use on site and borrow for two weeks

- Delivery takes about 2 working days, pick-up notification by e-mail
- Collection within 2 weeks in the Loans or the Pick up and Return Station
- Loan period: usually 4 weeks, extendable up to 12 weeks, if no order has been placed
- Alternatively: via the library catalog of the Regional State Library of Regensburg or the OTH library borrow on site, library card of the respective library required
Media from other libraries: Inter-library loan
We can obtain literature that is not available in Regensburg from other libraries via inter-library loan.
- Order via inter-library loan in the library catalog
- Delivery within approximately 1 week, pick-up notification by e-mail
- Collection within 2 weeks in the Loans
- Loan period: usually 4 weeks, depending on the specifications of the supplying library
Use other libraries and archives individually
- The library catalog contains holdings of other Regensburg libraries and archives
- For usage information, please contact the respective library
