Brief profile

The University Library or Regensburg acquires literature on all areas of history. In addition to monographs on important individual topics, the literature holdings primarily include textbooks, reference works (dictionaries, encyclopaedias, handbooks, language dictionaries), specialist journals and relevant specialist databases. In total, around a quarter of a million historical media in printed and electronics form are available for research, teaching and study. The collection is constantly updated with new publications. The focus is on research and study literature on all the sub-disciplines represented at the Institute of History and their main research areas.

Work & Study

Lesesaal Philosophicum 2

In the reading room Philosophicum 2 (PT 2) you will find current specialized historical literature, the most important basic works and current journals. The holdings are freely accessible and intended for use on site, but can usually also be borrowed for two weeks.

Older or less frequently used literature and works worthy of protection are kept in the stacks and can be ordered via the library catalog (external link, opens in a new window).

The N-systematics history: How is the literature arranged?

In the reading rooms of the University Library, books are arranged systematically by subject area (external link, opens in a new window) so that all works on a particular topic are displayed next to each other. You can quickly gain an overview of the available holdings by "browsing" the shelves.
