About Us

With around 4 million items, Regensburg University Library is the largest academic library in the region. Its main task is to provide academics and students at the University of Regensburg with literature and subject-relevant information. At the same time, the University Library sees itself as a competent information partner for the general public in the city of Regensburg and the surrounding region.

Place of information

The University Library acquires and catalogs the necessary literature and makes it available using suitable infrastructure. In the General Reading Room and eleven specialized reading rooms, the library provides printed media on all topics and subject areas. In addition, the range of (external link, opens in a new window) electronic media, such as e-books, electronic journals (external link, opens in a new window) and literature and specialized databases (external link, opens in a new window), is being continuously expanded. A large variety of special collections and digital collections complement the holdings.

A place to work and study

Modern individual and group workstations with generous opening hours are available for this purpose. The University Library also enables digital working and studying through digitization services, the MultiMediaCenter (external link, opens in a new window) and copying and scanning services. Researchers are supported in publishing their work through various publication services (external link, opens in a new window).

Place of knowledge transfer and information literacy

The University Library fulfils its core activity of imparting information literacy through a comprehensive range of management and training courses. The training program is supplemented by tutorials (external link, opens in a new window) on general and subject-specific library use.

Art and cultural space for science

The various exhibition areas offer both academics and students the opportunity to make their research accessible to a wider audience through exhibitions. Events such as readings or panel discussions complement this offer. The University Library organises virtual exhibitions on various topics.
